Hi, I am Linda J Golden DDS and have been in private practice for about 20 years. My interest in biological dentistry is a patient driven adventure. The most painless dentist I've ever been to.
"I wouldn't go anywhere else"
Great and friendly care with a holistic approach.
Courteous and helpful staff, excellent treatment!
"Wonderful, as usual"
Absolutely the best dentist (Winick), and the best hygienist (Tammy), I have ever been to! Very thorough and complete in their approach, from diet to hygiene. I had problems with my teeth when younger, but I have stellar checkups every time with Dr. Winick, thanks to the great advice and care.
We like the service very much and think Dr. Birkenfeld is great. The prices are pretty high though. Luckily our insurance covers some of it and it is great that they do all the paper work for submitting it to the insurance company. That is really the only reason we can afford it.
Extremely pleasant. Everyone there is respectful, caring and wonderful. Going to the dentist can be a stressful and anxious experience and they do everything in their power to soothe and care for patients.
My experience of dentistry prior to coming to Dentistry for Health was traumatic:
First there was the discomfort of being forced to awkwardly recline while a stranger poked inside my mouth and I could not speak.
Second, the overwhelming despair and sadness that sometimes brought me close to tears when hearing I had yet another cavity, bacteria in my gums, or an infection needing a root canal.
Third, feeling the dentist beside me had no empathy towards my emotional distraught left me feeling isolated and angry.
Fourth, be hit by the financial cost of the procedures was overwhelming.
Fifth, leaving the visit without any strategies to prevent this re-occurring pattern. Since I was very dedicated to brushing and flossing, ate no sweets, and had what I felt was a healthier diet than the average person, I could not understand how in each appointment there was several major crisis to be addressed. To my eyes it seemed like no matter what I did, I could never catch up to my oral health. "Dr. Winick's office has changed this. He is a dentist who's had an interest in educating me and exposing me to strategies that involved prevention and healing" not just damage control. Thanks to Dentistry for Health I have been able to see my oral problems in the context of my overall health, which has been enlightening.
The process has not been easy. It has been an investment and a serious commitment to follow the protocols I have been given. At times I have been overwhelmed and confused. Yet things have started to change in my oral health. I don't have cavities every time I go for a check up now, nor do I have gingivitis. I no longer see my teeth as my enemies.
I don't think my fear of dental appointments will ever completely disappear, but everybody in this office is nice and warm. I know they are on my side and trying to help me. I am happy to see them and I feel grateful to each person in staff for their warmth and how they have treated me while there.
"My last visit was top notch"
Thanks again for the professionalism, courtesy, and especially the use of progressive techniques which you always seem to have a gauge on. It's how health should be delivered.
“Most pleasant and insightful”
We were shown great courtesy and the DDS spent a great deal of time with us. His insight was most helpful.
"Happy to be a patient at DFHNY!"
Highly skilled professionals that know what they are doing and care, not just about teeth, but the overall health of the client.
Tammy is awesome. I could not be happier with my experience. She cleans my teeth with no discomfort, and is so knowledgeable. I feel lucky to be able to go to her for my bi-annual cleanings. I appreciate Dr. Winick's expert evaluation at end of appts.
"After having a health scare, I went the see a variety of alternative and complementary doctors to strengthen my overall health. I took a "heavy metals test" and couldn't believe how high I tested for all the metals... but most of all mercury!
I did lots of research and found out that I couldn't de-tox the metals while I still had amalgam fillings. I learned that in order to rid the metals from my tissues and organs, it was necessary to take the amalgam fillings out. Of course at that point I found Dr. Winick. He took all the fillings out in four visits and kept me entertained with endless jokes and silly stories that truthfully were always really funny!
Then I was able to begin the de-tox program. As the daughter of a retired dentist, I've always been completely satisfied with Dr. Winick's work and continue to be a patient 5 years later... I also really appreciate that he knows so much about holistic healthcare and continues to learn new things in the field of alternative health and healing which benefit us all."
“I have had a dental phobia since childhood and dental work can easily make me extremely anxious. In Dr. Winick’s care I was able to relax in the dental chair. In fact, one day I was in a rush and suggested that he fill a shallow cavity with no novocaine, which he did quickly and expertly!”

Her book, “Opening Love’s Door: The 7 Lessons” has been called a ‘cult classic’ by Readerviews.com & her Amazon short, “The Ultimate Guide to Getting the Love You Want” is a #1 bestseller.
Great attention to mercury-free procedures, minimizing my exposure to my old mercury filling when it was drilled out and great care in choosing bio-compatible composite material for new filling; use of acupressure and even a belly magnet to calm me and minimize discomfort or anxiety; use of ozone/lasers to ensure no tooth discomfort afterwards (I had none at all) and great care in filling the tooth properly and assuring a good bite. I also recommend the periodontal program here - amazing results and I didn't think I even had peridontal issues.
Dear Dr. Winick,
I want to thank you and your wonderful staff for saving me from loosing my front teeth. I was told by my dentist I had to extract my upper four front teeth and make a denture. I was very upset and you and your staff assured me that I can heal my teeth by following your perio-program and eating healthier. I am doing wonderful with my original teeth and do not plan to loose any of them.
Tammy and Dr Winick are the best. These deep dental cleanings are pretty difficult. Both Tammy & Dr Winick do everything they can to make them as painless & pleasant as possible. Last week, a few hours after the 1st quadrant cleaning, where there were some very deep pockets that needed scraping out, I started feeling dizzy & & unable to think clearly. I called the office & was able to speak directly with Tammy for a few minutes. She told me the symptoms were from toxins getting stuck in the lymph glands on the side the work had been done & told me how to get the glands draining again. This immediately fixed the problem. Dental service doesn't get any better than that!
Dear Craniosacral Therapists in NYC & Michael Shea's training,
I found a wonderful bite/tmj specialist Dentist who follows the Cranial Rhythm during his sessions to help him develop the right bite guard, augmentation of teeth and other subtle interventions. Last month, I followed him as he treated a number of patients and now I've gone myself and wanted to share him as a resource.
His name is Kem Moser and he practices in NYC at Dentistry for Health (Reid Winick's DDS. Holistic dentistry clinic) and in PA
His work with me has been incredibly illuminating, showing me how different parts of our jaw structure develop in our formative years or don't develop so fully, creating an incorrect bite, which then can create dysfunction throughout the spine and body. There's even a lineage of dentists who use the Cranial Rhythm as a guide that I'd never even heard of.
His specificity is really amazing. Using my own sessions as an example, he noted that my right maxilla is stuck in flexion, forcing the left side to overcompensate during the extension phase. He also noticed that my maxilla, compared to my mandible didn't develop as fully. When testing a guard, he'll have clients bite down, then he'll follow if the cranial rhythm gets fully and longer. As he corrects the bite, I could feel a clarity within my head compared to when the bite plate wasn't fully balanced.
So he's really an amazing resource for us in the Cranial world with clients perhaps having structural jaw dysfunction as a source of tension.
You can contact him at his email: firstname.lastname@example.org
He's up at Dentistry for Health, Thurs and Fri 212 973 9425
I had a cleaning and X-ray visit with Dr. Kessler and was in a bit of a rush. They got me in and out on time and did not skip anything. They did a fantastic job. Don't hesitate to make Dentistry for Health your primary Dentist. Dr. Kessler and the whole team are professional, knowledgeable and very focused on their patients well being.
I came to see Dr. Winick, thinking I was being poisoned by my amalgam fillings. As I sat in his chair, he carefully listened to my symptoms:
crushing fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, inexplicably sensitive teeth.
He could have said, "it's your fillings", and I would have paid cash to remove them on the spot! Instead, he slowed me down and encouraged me to get my thyroid checked first. Turns out, he was right. My hypothyroidism was causing the symptoms.
Dr. Winick truly knows his stuff and cares about the WHOLE patient. I can't thank him enough for guiding me in the right direction when all my other doctors missed it.
I have been to a number of other dentists. Here I have found a place where I feel confident, secure, in good knowledgable and skilled hands and at peace... I'm just starting a plan of dental care here that is crucial to my health and preparing for surgery... and instead of leaving here stressed by the advent of potential trauma, I left here feeling excited and relieved about the future of my health and the condition of my mouth and teeth, and thus the rest of my health as well. This dentist will be looking to remove the original cause of the symptoms, not just take out the symptoms by removing handfuls of teeth and performing irreversible surgical procedures on my gums in order to remove the only the symptom...
I never thought I would say a visit to the dentist was pleasant. I had delayed going because of dread. Despite the extra work I needed, I felt really good about my experience. I particularly like the holistic approach and lifestyle recommendations.
The state of the art facilities, friendly environment, convenient location and excellent treatment care, is well worth the cost..I know I am getting excellent holistic care overall...
Dear Dr. Winick,
It surprises me to say that it was a pleasure having my mercury fillings removed and replaced with safer material. Having gone into the process with much anxiety about how difficult the experience would be, I feel relieved and grateful that it was so easy and relaxing. Your "chairside manner" was friendly and calming, and listening to my choice of music added to the relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. The ear stimulation probably helped as well. It's wonderful to see that drugs are not necessary to make dentistry relaxing and pain-free. You've helped me overcome my fears of extensive dental work, and I'm very grateful for that. My thanks to Masha as well for adding to my comfort and care.
I'm extremely satisfied with my first appointment. I am truly looking forward to working on my gum issues and I'm so happy that I won't need surgery.
Somehow you all make the otherwise charmless experience of dentistry exceptionally pleasant! I always feel cared for and supremely well treated. Your office is a paradigm of the highest medical standards and then some! Thank you for making such an amazing effort.
Great care, health and empathic understanding are a few traits I receive each time I visit the office.
Great dental health education! I felt more informed about how to care for my teeth and prevent common gum disease that many people ignore. Starting early (age 26) to keep a healthy mouth!
I have been a patient of Dr. Winick for several years. I was referred to him because of my extreme difficulty in finding a dentist who could be sensitive to my needs, as I found it almost impossible to sit in a dentist’s chair due to my history of intense dental trauma throughout my life.
Dr. Winick listened to me, did not discount anything I said, and helped me to regain control over my experience. We had continuing conversations about my emotional needs, the work that I needed done, and options (which no other dentist had ever given me!).
I am now able to sit in the dentist’s chair quite easily, and I know, that if any problems should arise, I will be taken care of, worked with, and not be told to basically ‘tough it out’.
Not every dentist is the same. Dr. Winick proves that and in ways beyond his technical expertise. He sees you as a whole person, not just a set of teeth.
I would also like to add the Dr. Winick’s staff exhibits the same sensitivities and awareness.
Dr. Winick's office provides an exceptional level of client service. Dr. Winick has excellent support staff that communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally. This is one dental practice that is 'on the ball'. Dr. Winick and Tammy provide a tremendous amount of personal attention. They patiently educate and communicate the details of each visit and procedure. I feel that I am receiving a high level of treatment and that Dr. Winick and his staff are on the leading edge of the technology curve. They've been the only dentists to get me to floss everyday! My nagging mother is jealous!

"The best I've ever had in a Dental Office"
The staff is terrific! Everyone makes you feel at home and comfortable. When you walk in to this beautiful, clean office...you are greeted with Heidi & Shari at the front desk. They always have a smile on & make you feel like family. Masha is one of the dental assistants. She is great as are the others. Dr. Winick is one of a kind. He actually cares about you as a person & not only as his patient. He does not rush you out of his office like many doctors do. My gums were in terrible condition...other Dentist I went to prior to going to Dr. Winick told me that I needed extractions. After seeing Dr. Winick he told me that there was no reason for any extractions. He is so very knowledgeable in holistic medicine. I call him my HERO!!! I see Tammy (the hygenist) and she is more than just someone who cleans your gums. She is also so very knowledgeable in the "holistic" way of keeping your gums (and you) healthy. I feel lucky to have them all and even enjoy going to "The Dentist" I have learned so much from Dr. Winick and thank god for him and his staff. They are totally awesome!!!
Easily the best dental experience of my life
I am blown away by the experience I had yesterday. I usually can't be bothered to write reviews, but this one is worth the time. Dentistry at a whole new level of natural health and knowledge. The technology is sophisticated and fascinating. I saw the bacteria in my plaque, analyzed it, discovered I (and everyone else) had pockets of bacteria that I never knew existed, used sophisticated machinery to analyze and then clean them. The hygienist was brilliant and did a great job. My teeth are sparkling. I would tell that her name was Nancy, but then I would be afraid that she will get discovered and it will become harder to get an appointment. And Dr. Winick is operating on a level that is frankly stunning for a New York dentist. I am pretty aware of natural health and medicine, and it is rare to find very knowledgeable practitioners in New York, especially in dentistry, but here is one. He walks around with a juice from Organic Avenue. Enough said. If you are looking for a dentist or interested in a natural alternative to your existing dentist, run to this place immediately.
